The Public Square description

George Orwell said: "If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear." The Public Square is a place we cherish in a democracy, so what is our response to ideas we might find upsetting, confronting, even provocative? Do we only converse with people who share our views? Or are we, as a civil society, able to listen to each other, reflect on the issue at hand and sometimes even change our deeply held beliefs? Joining the Hon Bob Carr for this important conversation are Shalom Auslander, Sarah Ferguson, David Hare and Mark Scott (via video).

The placeholder image on this page will be updated once the remaining guest headshots and bios have been added.

Please note: David Penberthy was part of the lineup for this event but he has had to withdraw. George Brandis has since been added to the lineup.
