Let's Eat: What is it about Ireland? description

Let’s celebrate the power of nature, cuisine and Irish literature!

Ireland has arguably produced more great literary works per capita than any other country. With one of the oldest vernacular literatures in Europe, the Irish have written prolifically in Irish and in English: from canonical writers such as Swift, Sterne, Yeats, Wilde, Joyce and Beckett to contemporary writers like Séamus Hearney, Brian Friel, Paul Muldoon, Edna O’Brien, Colm Toibín, Anna Burns, John Banville and Sally Rooney. Join Ireland’s most translated writer, celebrated novelist and writer for children John Boyne, and brilliant new talent, short story writer and novelist Louise Kennedy, over dinner as they explain what it is that makes them write.

This one-off dinner experience includes the freshest seasonal ingredients around the state, foraged by East End Cellars' chefs to create a four-course dinner that celebrates the beauty of nature. The menu will be paired with South Australia wines that perfectly complement the flavours of the food.

Presented by East End Cellars and the University of Adelaide as part of Let's Eat!

Facilitator: Professor Patrick Flanery, Chair in Creative Writing, University of Adelaide
